Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded, need-based student work program awarded by Financial Aid. Interest in work-study must be indicated on the FAFSA each year in order to be considered for the award.

The Career Center is a great resource for students that are job searching. Some local employers and campus departments post positions through the Career Center’s Connections site.

The Department of Housing and Residence Life offers many positions including Information Assistants, students trained to provide assistance and services to guests and residents in the residence halls, and Resident Advisers, students that live in a specific residence hall and work to build community, counsel and educate residents, and act as a crisis manager.

The Door-to-Door approach is also a viable option in Starkville with many departments hiring students that apply directly to their office and numerous local retailers, restaurants, and other businesses hiring students in part-time positions that fit within the student’s class schedule.
Cooperative Education and Internships
Co-Ops and Internships help students gain practical work experience in their industry before graduation. Co-Op students can take semesters off to work full-time in their industry and earn a salary while still being enrolled as a full-time student.

The Career Center offers students a variety of career preparation programs, publications, and services. One of their helpful publications is the Career Center Handbook where students can find sample resumes, cover letters, and interview tips, such as sample questions and even what to wear.
