How do I change my major?

All major changes for prospective and newly-admitted students must be submitted through the major change request form which can be found in the student’s application portal. *Currently enrolled MSU students must contact their academic department to change their major. 

How do I add a double major?

Students will need to contact their assigned advisor in their Academic College if they are wanting to double major in a subject. Students can go to the Center for Advising to add, change, declare, or explore majors. 

How do I add a minor?

Undergraduate students can add an (optional) minor to any major they are pursuing at MSU. Each minor requires a minimum of 15 credit hours to be completed upon graduation. If a student is wanting to add a minor, they will need to contact their assigned advisor in their Academic College to add the minor they want. 

What if I want to change my major at Orientation?

It is recommended that you do so before attending an Orientation session. You can do this by e-mailing the Office of Admissions and Scholarships at admit@msstate.edu and providing your name, MSU ID number, and the major into which you would like to be placed. Staff members will also be available during Orientation to facilitate major changes.
